Dr Adele Chynoweth

Dr Chynoweth’s PhD thesis is concerned with contemporary Australian drama. Her training and associated experience as a professional theatre director has informed her ongoing interest in semiotics and the associated politics of representation. She was employed as the researcher and writer of the Memory Museum – an official event in the celebrations of the Centenary of Federation SA 2001 and was co-curator, at the National Museum of Australia, of Inside: Life in Children’s Homes and Institutions.

Dr Chynoweth’s current research interests include the representation of narratives of trauma and Australian working and underclass culture. She has also published articles concerning human rights museology and the Forgotten Australians. She is currently researching the experiences of those, who as children, were incarcerated in adult mental health facilities in Australia.

Adele Chynoweth is also an international consultant for Welfare Stories: from the Edge of Society, a social history and justice project undertaken in Denmark, in collaboration between the Welfare Museum, Svendborg, the Prison Museum, Horsens, and the Centre for Welfare State Research, University of Southern Denmark.

Adele Chynoweth er tilknyttet Velfaerdshistorier fra kanten som international konsulent. Projektet er et samarbejdsprojekt mellem Forsorgsmuseet i Svendborg, Faengselsmuseet i Horsens og Center for velfaerdsstatsforskning på Syddansk Universitet med henblik på at skabe en mere balanceret og inkluderende fortaelling om socialt udsatte i det danske velfaerdssamfund. Projektet er stoettet af Velux Fonden.
